Reports from Argentina suggest Cristian Romero has a release clause at Tottenham and Fabrizio Romano has responded to those claims.
Romero has been linked with a move to Real Madrid who are looking to bring in a new centre-back for the summer of 2025.
The Argentine’s recent performances have been brought into question with Tottenham fans particularly unhappy with Romero’s display against Brighton.
But ultimately, he is a player the North London club will be desperate to keep hold of having proved himself to be one of the top defenders in world football.
Romano responds to reports of Romero’s Spurs release clause
Romero does not have a release clause at Tottenham despite reports from Argentina, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Spurs have no interest in losing the 26-year-old and deem him to be untouchable. Romero had interest from the likes of Madrid, PSG and Manchester United but Daniel Levy stood firm over his stance.
Tottenham are keen to hold talks with Romero over a new long-term contract, but talks are yet to start and his current deal runs until 2027.
The North London club were given a boost in their hopes of keeping hold of Romero with Madrid reportedly making Arsenal’s William Saliba their number-one target instead.
Tottenham are well-equipped for Romero’s departure
Tottenham appear to be well prepared should Romero’s potential move to the Santiago Bernabeu materialise. Radu Dragusin could be the main man to step up if Spurs were to lose the defender, meanwhile, Micky van de Ven is quickly announcing himself as one of the best central defenders in the Premier League.
Luka Vuskovic is showing great progression in Belgium with the Tottenham loanee emerging as one of the best young talents his age. The 17-year-old looks like an insane prospect on loan at Westerlo in the Belgian Pro League having netted four goals for the club this season.
