Cristian Romero’s future at Tottenham Hotspur has come under question with doubts as to whether the defender will renew his contract.
The World Cup winner’s current deal runs until June 30, 2027, and he is the North London club’s joint third-highest earner. Last summer, the defender had plenty of interested clubs keen to sign him and next year is likely to be the same situation.
Spurs could face a tricky situation in the summer of 2025 as he will have two years left on his deal and they won’t want to run the risk of his value dropping. The Lilywhites will need to assess over the coming months as to how open Romero is to signing a new contract in N17.
Tottenham keen to discuss new contract with Romero
Tottenham are keen to hold talks with Romero over a new long-term contract, according to Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing.
Spurs are yet to discuss renewing his deal with the Argetine’s camp, however, there are plans for that to change over the next few months.
Real Madrid have shown an interest in Romero although there won’t be too much panic right now given his current deal runs until 2027.
But if conversions between Romero and Spurs over a deal are not too positive, selling him next summer when he will have 24 months left might be the most ideal moment.
Tottenham well-equipped for Romero’s departure
Tottenham appear well-equipped for the potential exit of Romero. Radu Dragusin has proven himself to be a more than capable heir to the throne of the central defender. Meanwhile, Micky van de Ven is quickly becoming one of the best central defenders in Europe.
Luka Vuskovic is another talented central defender owned by Tottenham. The 17-year-old is currently showing great progression in the Belgian top flight. The Croatian is currently on loan at Westerlo in the Belgian Pro League.
