Tottenham Hotspur club name

Members of Hotspur Cricket Club and a local grammar school sought to form a football club in 1882 and founded Hotspur FC. But the club changed their name to Tottenham Hotspur FC soon after in 1884. It followed an earlier move in 1883 to play games on Tottenham marshes.

Students of St John’s Presbyterian School and Tottenham Grammar School founded Hotspur Cricket Club in 1880. But they soon reconvened and founded Hotspur FC, which would later become Tottenham Hotspur, in 1882. They sought to form a team to play sports in the winter.

Robert Buckle, Hamilton Casey and John Anderson discussed the notion of Hotspur Cricket Club founding a football team. The trio met under a gas lamp around 100 yards from where Tottenham’s stadium is located today.

Tottenham Hotspur stadium

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium became the North London outfit’s home in April 2019 after completing a £1 billion construction project. Spurs spent two years building their ground on the site of their former home, White Hart Lane. They demolished their old stadium in 2017.

Tottenham Hotspur training ground

Enfield has been home to Tottenham’s training ground, Hotspur Way, since the summer of 2012. Spurs secured a 77-acre site at Bull Cross in 2007 for their new base before starting a £45 million project to replace Spurs Lodge. It had acted as the club’s training ground since 1996.
