Tottenham Hotspur came from behind to beat Aston Villa 4-1 on Sunday afternoon with Dejan Kulusevski’s creativity a key factor once again.

Tottenham Hotspur faced a big test on Sunday as top four rivals Aston Villa visited the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs were beaten 1-0 at Crystal Palace last weekend before a rousing EFL Cup win over Manchester City.

Fans were left wondering which Tottenham would show up against Villa on Sunday – and the first-half display didn’t inspire confidence.

Morgan Rogers fired Villa in front as Tottenham fans were left questioning Guglielmo Vicario’s goalkeeping from set pieces once again.

Tottenham had to hit back and did so in style, scoring four times in the second half to thrash Villa 4-1 and secure a huge three victory.

Dejan Kulusevski chasing Arsenal legend’s record

Son Heung-min’s stunning cross for Brennan Johnson kickstarted the fightback before Dominic Solanke added a fine brace.

James Maddison added number four with a lovely free kick as Tottenham’s attacking players really stepped it up in a red-hot Spurs atmosphere which left John McGinn stunned.

It would be easy to overlook Dejan Kulusevski here, given that he wasn’t on the scoresheet.

However, the Swede was instrumental again, playing a brilliant reverse pass to set up Solanke as Spurs went 2-1 up.

Kulusevski bagged two assists against City in midweek and took that creativity into Premier League action.

That assist against Villa means that Kulusevski has now racked up 20 Premier League assists since joining Tottenham in January 2022.

Squawka note that Kulusevski has become the third Swedish player to hit that 20 assist mark in Premier League football.

Sebastian Larsson sits on 26 assists whilst Arsenal legend Freddie Ljungberg is top of the tree with 29 Premier League assists to his name.

Kulusevski has Ljungberg in his sights now and his creativity this season suggests that there are more assists to come.

Kulusevski needs 10 assists to break past Ljungberg, which is still quite the gap to be made up by the Spurs star.

The former Juventus man is only 24 though and will certainly hope to make considerable ground on Ljungberg by the end of the season.

Kulusevski taking his game to another level

Kulusevski has made a big change this season.

Primarily a right-sided winger, Kulusevski has been moved infield to play as more of a creative midfield player.

This switch has seen Kulusevski take his game to another level and become almost undroppable this season.

Kulusevski broke a Premier League record at Old Trafford earlier this season, creating nine chances as Spurs beat Manchester United 3-0.

Ange Postecoglou sees Kulusevski’s future as a midfielder and we have loved watching his development this season.

Seeing Kulusevski overtake Ljungberg would be great, but as long as Kulusevski keeps making an impact in the Spurs midfield, we will be very, very happy.
