Tottenham sent shockwaves throughout the Premier League following their 4-0 hammering of Manchester City.
Three points, four goals, and a clean sheet, it couldn’t have gone much better for Spurs at the Etihad.
Ange Postecoglou’s side were outstanding on the night with James Maddison playing a key role in Tottenham’s win and Dejan Kulusevski also earning praise from Gary Neville for his performance on the right-hand flank.
Having beaten the Premier League champions so easily, it has now left many fans questioning why Spurs cannot provide performances like that on a more consistent basis – a sentiment that has been echoed by Alan Shearer.

Alan Shearer says Tottenham need to be more consistent following Man City win
Tottenham are arguably the only team in the land that could lose to Ipswich Town and then batter the champions in their own backyard – in what is a truly ‘Spursy’ set of results.
Ian Wright has recently criticised Tottenham’s inconsistency, and Ange Posteoglou will be hoping his side can provide performances like that on a more consistent basis.
Alan Shearer has also honed on Tottenham’s topsy-turvy results, telling the Rest Is Football Podcast that Spurs must replicate their Man City display more often if they are to improve on last season’s fifth-placed finish.
“I thought Spurs were brilliant in everything they did. I thought they made Man City in midfield areas look incredibly light, really light in the midfield. They lost so many 1v1 battles. Maddison, I thought, was magnificent.
“When the two center-halves were missing with Ben Davies and Dragusin were in there, I was thinking they could have been in trouble. Saying that it might have been trouble if Haaland had put away one of his big chances.
“He had three big chances to score before Spurs actually did score, so it could have been very different, but take nothing away from Spurs. They won most battles 1v1 and they could have scored a couple more.
“That’s what they (Tottenham) need to do ten times out of eleven rather than being beaten by clubs like Ipswich. How can that team be beaten off Ipswich and then go to Man City and perform like that? That’s what will be Spurs fans’ heads is that they know that’s in there, that has to be every week not now and again.”
Tottenham’s consistency will be tested over Christmas period
With the busy Christmas period fast approaching, Tottenham’s consistency will be truly tested by the winter fixtures.
The tough tests of Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea all await Spurs in December, but if the Lilywhites can string a good set of results together, that could have a huge impact on where they finish come May.
