Ian Wright questions Tottenham consistency against Ipswich

One point that has been clear with Tottenham has surrounded how consistently inconsistent the side are every week.

Spurs are more than capable of beating the best sides in the world, likewise, they are capable of losing to the worst.

That was firmly on display against Ipswich, with former Arsenal star Ian Wright highlighting that issue on Premier League productions.

“This is Spurs and what they do,” he said at half-time in the tie. “I don’t mean that disrespectfully.

“When they are in a good run and you think they can put more results together, they throw a performance like this out there.”

It’s certainly an issue for Postecoglou to grapple with, making it tough to know which side will turn up each week.

If they can start to phase out the poorer elements and instead hit those heights more regularly, then there’s an opportunity to compete at the very top for a long time.

Tottenham must solve inconsistency with defensive solidity

It’s clear that Postecoglou won’t change his tactics, but there may be some tweaks needed within the side to help solidify them.

Defensive stability is one of those issues as they continually concede sloppy goals, underlined by the opportunities they gave away against Ipswich.

If they can somehow solve those defensive issues, then Spurs may be able to stop that inconsistency in favour of greater winning runs.

While that may start with looking at the issues at the back, it may be the forward line that can cop some of the blame against Ipswich.

There was a lack of energy and conviction in the first half from Tottenham, which meant they weren’t able to punish the visitors as they would’ve liked.

Everything needs to fall into place for the team to click under Postecoglou and they show moments of it, they just need it that bit more.
