Tottenham have had a brilliant start to the season as they sit top of the Premier League, and manager Ange Postecoglou has figured out a way to do it with very little squad depth, particularly in defence, after failed moves in the summer for Lloyd Kelly.
Spurs offloaded a number of defenders in the summer such as Davinson Sanchez on a permanent deal whilst Djed Spence, Joe Rodon, Japhet Tanganga and Sergio Reguilon all departed on loan, leaving them light at the back,
Especially at centre-back, with the only Senior option behind starters Cristian Romero and Micky Van de Ven is Eric Dier, who has been linked with a move away, although Ash Phillips is also an option. This looks to be a position that new sporting director Johan Lange is keen to add depth to.
Spurs look to go back in for Lloyd Kelly
According to Football London, Spurs are looking at potentially going back in January for a deal for Bournemouth centre-back Lloyd Kelly.
Spurs already tried to add Kelly to the squad on deadline day, but had a £20 million move fall at the last hurdle.
Kelly’s contract expires in the summer, so Spurs may be able to get him in on the cheap, but with Liverpool and Newcastle also said to be interested they may have to move quickly.
Would Lloyd Kelly be a good signing?
This would be a great signing for Spurs.
Centre-back is an area of the field where Spurs need depth, and Kelly has shown that he can play competently at Premier League level.
He is also versatile too, being able to play left back as well.
Only 25 years old, he also has plenty of time to develop before getting into his prime. He is also English, so helps with the quota.
