New transfer news has reported that Tottenham defender Eric Dier is attracting interest from Sporting Lisbon. His contract at the Premier League club expires next year.
It has been a hard season for Tottenham’s Eric Dier so far. He is yet to play this season and he has not even been selected in the match day squad in six of the nine matches so far.
This has seen clubs monitor the player, with The Times reporting that Sporting Lisbon ‘have discussed’ signing Dier and want to make a move when his contract expires next year.
The report goes on to say that the Portuguese club could even make a bid for the Spurs player in January in the hope that a reduced offer could see a deal completed. Dier started his career at Sporting Lisbon so this would see him return to the club where it all began.

Sporting Lisbon want to sign Tottenham defender Eric Dier
With no minutes this season and Dier sometimes not even making the bench, it feels like manager Ange Postecoglou has deemed him surplus to requirements.
Due to this, it would be a massive shock if Spurs decided to hand Dier a contract extension and keep him in the first-team squad beyond this season.
The best outcome for Spurs would be if Sporting Lisbon made a move for Dier in January. This is the only way that the Premier League club could receive some money for him.
Owner Daniel Levy is no doubt wanting to get some financial return for losing Dier in order to help fund future transfers.

The £85k-a-week centre-back has no doubt had some good times at Spurs but it looks like he will have to move if he wants to pursue first team football.
It will be interesting to see whether Spurs are able to sell him in January. If the 29 year-old wants to be at his best he needs to be playing sooner rather than later.
