Ange Postecoglou has told Tottenham Hotspur the two positions he wants to sign in January as they look to bolster his squad during the winter window.

Tottenham’s squad has been plagued by injury this campaign with Postecoglou having been left short of options on many occasions. January is a tricky window to operate in, however, Spurs need to make a big push to get in the right players.

The North London club’s squad is short in several areas but Postecoglou has made it known which two positions he is most keen to upgrade.

Tottenham want to sign a forward

Signing an attacker is a priority for Tottenham in January, according to the Evening Standard. Ange Postecoglou has had to significantly overwork Tottenham’s front line which has impacted their performances. Dominic Solanke has looked exhausted at times given Spurs’ lack of cover at centre forward and the high-pressing game he is being asked to carry out.

Meanwhile, Heung-min Son is having to play a lot of football for a player who has just returned from a groin injury and his form has subsequently dipped. Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner are the club’s other available attackers.

Wilson Odobert, Richarlison and Mikey Moore are all out at the moment with the former two out with hamstring injuries whilst Moore is recovering from a nasty illness. Min-Hyuk Yang is due to arrive in January but regardless Postecoglou wants another attacker added.

Ange Postecoglou needs another defensive option signed

Postecoglou is also prioritising the signing of a defender. The Lilywhites need cover at centre-back and left-back which could result in them adding a player who can cover both positions.

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have both struggled to stay fit this season with Romero suffering a new quad injury on his return from a foot issue. Van de Ven also pulled up injured against Chelsea, however, he is only set to miss a week with muscle tightness. Ben Davies became the latest defender to suffer an injury and could miss several weeks of action.

Tottenham’s defensive situation has become pretty bad as they will now head to Ibrox on Thursday to play Rangers with Radu Dragusin as their only fit centre-back. Archie Gray will have to cover there showing just how important it is they add a new defender in the winter window.
