Not only were Tottenham Hotspur beaten by Chelsea but they also saw both their returning centre-backs forced off with injuries on a terrible evening for Ange Postecoglou’s team.

Spurs allowed another two-goal lead to slip, this time to their bitter rivals Chelsea who won 4-3 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The defeat now leaves Postecoglou’s job in danger as his team imploded on yet another occasion this season.

The Lilyhwhites’ misery was only further compounded by Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero being forced off with injuries. After the match, injury updates have been provided on both players with Van de Ven facing good news.

Positive Micky van de Ven injury update

Micky van de Ven is expected to be fit to face Southampton next week despite looking in some discomfort against Chelsea, according to Physio Scout on X. The defender stunned Spurs fans by returning against Chelsea from a hamstring injury.

The 23-year-old’s return was short-lived though as he was forced off against the Blues with another hamstring issue. However, the Dutch international is expected to miss less than a week as he came off with just hamstring tightness.

It appears to be more of a load management issue than anything major and Postecoglou confirmed after the game that his minutes were always going to be managed. The Spurs boss told the media: “Micky’s plan was always to play 60/70 minutes. He didn’t feel anything significant.”

Van de Ven managed until the 79th minute before having to pull up with another injury issue and moving forward his minutes are likely to be closely monitored.

What is the latest on Cristian Romero’s injury?

In Cristian Romero’s case, his update does not appear to be quite as positive as Van de Ven’s with the Argentine set to miss another couple of weeks. Physio Scout believes the defender may have strained his quad overcompensating for the issue with his foot.

There is a chance it could just be tightness which would rule him out for less than a week, but a Grade one strain would see him miss two to three weeks and a Grade two strain would sideline him for three to six weeks.
