What Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker have said on Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham future, they are in total agreement

Tottenham have unsurprisingly earned themselves a fair few critics following their display against Ipswich Town.

The Lilywhites entered the game with the chance to move up to third in the Premier League table and many would have expected them to get the job done – Kieran Mckenna’s side however would have other ideas.

Spurs would be outfought and outthought by the Tractor Boys, leaving many to criticise Tottenham’s inability to put together a consistent run of form.

Ange Postecoglou took responsibility for Tottenham’s poor performance and the pressure could soon mount on the Aussie if Spurs do not rectify their patchy run of results.

With the Spurs coaching staff facing growing criticism, Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker have had their say on Postecoglou’s future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker’s verdict on Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs future

Tottenham’s defeat at the hands of newly-promoted Ipswich has earned them some damming critics in the press.

Former Spurs man Jamie O’Hara claimed Cristian Romero was ‘all over the place’ against Ipswich, meanwhile, Ian Wright criticised Tottenham’s inconsistency – something that has been echoed by his former BBC colleagues Shearer and Lineker.

Whilst featuring on the ‘The Rest Is Football’ podcast, the former England strikers honed in on the Ipswich loss and questioned whether Postecoglou could soon be under pressure at Spurs.

Lineker: “Is he (Postecoglou) in the area of being under pressure yet or not? I wouldn’t have thought so”

Shearer added: “No, don’t think so. He took responsibility didn’t he, he said it was his fault, his problem and he’s got to sort it out. But when you see them in the second half against Villa and beating City, it’s the inconsistency again, how long have we been saying that about Spurs?”

Nuno Espirito Santo comparison will worry Postecoglou

Both Shearer and Lineker insist Postecoglou isn’t under pressure just yet, but that pressure will only continue to grow if the Aussie cannot find a remedy for Tottenham’s inconsistencies.

When it comes to analysing whether people should be questioning Postecoglou’s job, it is worth taking a look back at some previous Tottenham managers, who received the sack from Daniel Levy.

Nuno Espirito Santo is now loving life as Nottingham Forest boss, but it was only a few years ago when he was struggling in north London as Spurs boss.

A barren run of form in the Premier League ultimately cost the Portuguese manager his job after ten games – but if you look at Tottenham’s current run of results under Postecoglou, it is almost identical to the sort of form that got Nuno sacked.
