Vincent Kompany tells Harry Kane why he should stay at Bayern amid Tottenham links

Harry Kane’s potential Spurs return has picked up steam in the last week, but Bayern manager Vincent Kompany isn’t keen to lose his best player.

When Bayern Munich signed Harry Kane two seasons ago, they could not have foreseen just how dominant the Englishman would be.

Kane reached 100 goals in just 104 games for the German giants. He has taken to the Bundesliga like a duck to water, becoming Bayern’s most important player by far.

But a Premier League return was always a possibility, especially given his proximity to the all-time scoring record. At 32, he is playing the best football of his life and doesn’t look like slowing down.

For this reason, speculation on a Spurs comeback has been rampant in both English and German media.

Vincent Kompany not interested in discussing a Kane departure

Kane has a release clause in his contract that makes a move possible. Fabrizio Romano revealed Spurs have priority in any deal, stoking the fires of a potential return to North London.

Manager Vincent Kompany isn’t interested in discussing the possibility, but rather wants to remind his star striker why he moved to Bayern in the first place.

As reported by Bavarian Football Works, Kompany is not worrying about his departure.

He says: “Harry is in an excellent phase. I don’t want to open the door to any other discussion. Harry wants to win titles, and he can do that at Bayern. That’s the only focus.”

Whether that statement was made with Spurs in mind is difficult to say. But it’s clear the Bayern boss wants no surprises come January, when Kane can register his desire to leave and activate a £56.7 million release clause.

Kane return rumours could be wishful thinking

There’s no denying the chatter has increased around Kane’s future, but the player himself hasn’t indicated a desire to leave.

He sees Bayern as having a real chance to succeed in Europe and everything he is saying points to him being happy in Munich.

When he left, Kane left the door open to a Spurs return, saying: “[This is] not goodbye, because you never know how things pan out in the future, but it is a thank you and I’ll see you soon.”

But Kane could genuinely be in contention for the Ballon d’Or if his current form continues. He was never getting this type of recognition during his time at Spurs, and the question is whether he would sacrifice that for the Premier League record.

Spurs fans won’t have to wait long to know, as Kane will have to make that decision before the end of the winter window.
