The possibility of a Harry Kane return has been all anyone can talk about around Spurs.
Thomas Frank’s comments on Harry Kane this week suggested he would love to bring the Englishman back to North London.
He left as Spurs’ all-time top goalscorer in 2023, and has set the Bundesliga alight since arriving.
Kane has managed 98 goals in 103 appearances for the German giants. This season, he’s already up to 13 in seven games, so he’s definitely still got it.
But how possible, and how likely is a Premier League return?
Fabrizio Romano isn’t ruling out a Harry Kane return
It’s well documented that Kane has a release clause in his Bayern contract. Currently, the figure is £67 million, but it will drop to £54 million in January. And Spurs are in the best position to activate it.
As Romano explains: “At the end, it’s Harry Kane who decides, but Tottenham have a priority option to sign him. So they will be the first ones to be offered the opportunity to sign Kane if he decides to leave Bayern.”
Spurs made sure to add the contingency into the Kane deal two years ago, allowing them to match any offer that comes in for the second-placed goalscorer in Premier League history.
Kane’s decision could be swayed by the fact that he can still catch Alan Shearer on the all-time list.
He is obviously thriving in Munich, so any attempt to lure him home could go either way.
Kane’s stance on Bayern could throw Spurs’ plans
Spurs’ buy-back option was common knowledge, but Romano has some new information that may complicate the matter.
As he reveals: “Kane is fully focused on Bayern. Kane wants to win important titles at Bayern. Kane is fully convinced, from what I’m told, that Bayern can compete for the Champions League this season in a very serious way.”

Given that Kane would need to make his desire to leave known in January, this claim that he is 100% in on Bayern may quell the hopes of fans. But Romano isn’t willing to commit either way, offering some encouragement in his closing remarks.
He says: “At the end of the season, we will see what happens. But Tottenham send their message that the doors are open.”
A Kane return would be fantastic. Even at 32, he is one of the best players in Europe. For Spurs to lure him back would be a massive coup, not only for his on-pitch quality, but for what he can bring to the dressing room.
Spurs fans should monitor how Bayern fare in Europe. If their prospects take a dive in the coming months, it could push the Spurs legend towards a move back to England.
