The front three Thomas Frank must unleash when everyone is fit, including ‘special’ Tottenham star

Thomas Frank has inherited a squad stacked with attacking talent, and his next task will be to figure out his strongest front three.

Spurs did some exciting business this summer, bringing in highly-touted talents to add firepower to the attack.

In his time at Brentford, Thomas Frank used a range of different profiles in his forward line, proving himself to be very efficient at putting players in positions to score.

Ivan Toney thrived under his guidance, and when he left for Saudi, Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa became a lethal duo. He also turned Ollie Watkins into a top striker before his move to Aston Villa.

All that to say, Frank gets the best out of his attackers. His track record proves it.

When all are healthy, he will have a whole host of weapons to deploy, but he will have to land on a strongest three.

Spurs’ strongest front three: Right-wing

This is actually the easiest of selections, which is why it’s the first choice up.

Brennan Johnson has been a quality attacking asset in recent seasons, but £55 million signing Mohammed Kudus has been fantastic for Spurs since his arrival.

Kudus has the most successful take-ons in Europe’s top five leagues, and has already come up with three assists in five Premier League games.

Dejan Kulusevski has shown such prowess in central positions that playing him on the right doesn’t feel like the right decision. He will be battling for the number 10 position, preferably. More on that later.

Spurs’ strongest front three: Striker

Spurs are spoiled for choice at striker, with new arrival Randal Kolo Muani, record-signing Dominic Solanke, and Richarlison in contention for Frank’s favour.

This is a tough decision, because Kolo Muani hasn’t had long to show what he can do.

It’s a battle that could heat up as the season wears on, but if he’s fit, Dominic Solanke gets the nod.

We haven’t seen the best of Solanke, and if Frank has time to coach him like he coached his Brentford players, we could yet see the very best of Spurs’ £65 million man.

Richarlison is a valuable member of the squad, but he’s not as natural in the position as his teammates.

Spurs’ strongest front three: Left-wing

Now we get to the most difficult choice.

Initially, you might say Xavi Simons is a shoo-in, but like Kulusevski, Simons is at his most effective in the 10. With James Maddison also vying for the role, that’s a position where tough decisions will have to be made. But we’re leaving them out of contention.

For the strongest front-three, Frank will want a player who excels most out wide. Wilson Odobert and Mathys Tel look like the future of that position, and one of the two should make the strongest front three by the end of the season.

That being said, they are both 20, and perhaps not yet ready to be relied upon in the biggest games.

So it’s back to a player who missed out on the opposite flank for now, in Brennan Johnson.

The Welshman has excelled at points for Spurs on both wings, proving himself to be a real goal threat. He gets more criticism than he deserves. Until the two French youngsters are more settled, he should be trusted in that role.
