Antonin Kinsky is going to be in goal for Tottenham in the Carabao Cup against Doncaster Rovers and he’ll be hoping to emulate his debut against Liverpool.

Thomas Frank confirmed his inclusion in the Spurs’ XI for League One Doncaster’s visit on Tuesday, which will be Kinsky’s first start of the season.

He has been on the bench for Tottenham so far this season, with Guglielmo Vicario keeping him out of the team.

However, he now has the chance to earn his spot as cup competition goalkeeper, and if he pulls off the performance he did against Liverpool on his debut, he could even push Vicario out of his place.

Antonin Kinsky shone on his Tottenham debut in the Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool

The 22-year-old joined Spurs from Slavia Prague in January for an estimated £12.5million and was handed his debut just three days later in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Liverpool.

He kept a clean sheet in the 1-0 win, using his smart footwork and sharp saves to frustrate Arne Slot’s side, denying Darwin Nunez late on to save Spurs’ advantage going into the second leg.

Spurs went on to lose the reverse fixture 4-0, making it 4-1 on aggregate, but Kinsky’s debut showed what he would be capable of providing the club in the future.

Club legend Clive Allen even described his performance as ‘one of the best debuts I’ve seen at this football club’, and Tottenham fans will be keen to see how he gets on against Doncaster in his first start since the 2-0 loss to Aston Villa at the end of last season.

What Thomas Frank has said about Antonin Kinsky before the Carabao Cup clash

Speaking ahead of the Doncaster clash, Frank said: “Antonin will start [on Wednesday]. I’m very happy with him as a goalkeeper. I think he’s a very good goalkeeper with very good potential.

“For any player not starting, they’re not happy. Some probably understand it a bit more. How can I say… outfielders, sometimes, you’re young, you’re trying to get your way into it, but at some stage you always want to play. Same for goalkeepers.

“The easy thing for Antonin would have been to stay at his former club. Now it’s a bigger stage, a bigger challenge. He has a great future here at Tottenham, I like what I see from him, he just has to keep training well and doing well.”

Kinsky is one of numerous expected changes to be made by Frank for Doncaster’s visit, with Damola Ajayi coming up against his own club.
