Winners and losers of a Harry Kane return to Tottenham as Thomas Frank insists he’s ‘more than welcome’

Thomas Frank has set the cat among the pigeons by saying Harry Kane is ‘more than welcome’ at Tottenham, but that blockbuster return could have a huge knock-on effect on the parties involved.

Kane’s Bayern Munich clause made headlines this week, with Kane able to leave next summer for £56.7million as long as he states his intention to leave before the end of the January transfer window. That’s despite him still having two years left on his contract with the Bundesliga giants.

Spurs manager Frank was open to the idea, he said: “I think there’s a lot of Tottenham fans including myself who would like to see Kane back. If Harry wants to join us, he’s more than welcome.”

So, who would benefit the most from a Kane Tottenham return and who would suffer as a result of it? The Spurs News has taken a look…

Winners in a Harry Kane Tottenham return

Harry Kane

While Kane will greatly benefit from losing the pressure of his trophy hoodoo if he returns to Spurs thanks to his Bundesliga win, there’s another accolade he’s chasing.

The England captain has bagged 213 Premier League goals, and he’s just 47 goals behind former Newcastle and Blackburn Rovers striker Alan Shearer’s 260. It’s highly unlikely Kane will have forgotten about his opportunity to smash that record and this will be a huge win for him to have the chance to do so if he comes back.

Eyebrows will initially be raised at the idea of Tottenham’s owners winning from a Kane return given they were the ones who sold him in the first place, while also overseeing Spurs’ trophy drought that will have played a role in his departure in pursuit of silverware.

However, Spurs fans may feel less aggrieved about that decision if they buy him back to star under Frank and push them towards more trophies after last season’s Europa League victory.

Losers in a Harry Kane Tottenham return

Bayern Munich

An obvious loser if Kane goes back to his former club is Bayern Munich. After Manchester City tried and failed to sign Kane, Bayern bought him for £86 million in 2023.

If his release clause was activated, they would lose close to £30million on their investment. He has fired them to a title and scored an impressive 98 goals in 103 games, so the purchase won’t ever be regretted. However, he will be a big loss to them if he does go.

Dominic Solanke

Last season’s first choice Spurs striker Dominic Solanke will know Kane would pretty much walk into his position if he returned. He’s been a substitute so far this season before he suffered his ankle injury, coming on for Richarlison who has got the nod over him under Thomas Frank.

After struggling with a knee injury and scoring nine goals in 47 appearances in a tough season for Spurs bar their European success last term, Solanke would be worrying about getting minutes if the England striker was back in town to compete with him and Richarlison.
