Ange Postecoglou claims Tottenham Hotspur star played through ‘pretty sore’ injury v Ipswich Town

Tottenham Hotspur’s momentum has been completely halted after losing 2-1 at home to struggling Ipswich Town on Sunday.

Tottenham Hotspur appeared to be getting somewhere after losing to Crystal Palace.

Spurs beat Manchester City in the EFL Cup and then demolished Aston Villa in a thumping home win last weekend.

Thursday’s Europa League defeat at Galatasaray wasn’t an enormous blow but the same can’t be said of Sunday’s defeat to Ipswich Town.

Spurs were 2-0 at the break as the struggling Tractor Boys left the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium stunned.

Rodrigo Bentancur pulled one back for Spurs but Ange Postecoglou watched on as his side couldn’t quite find an equaliser with Tottenham fans baffled by James Maddison’s lack of action.

Ange Postecoglou on Dominic Solanke

Just when Tottenham start to build momentum, it comes to a crashing halt.

Ipswich hadn’t won a single game this season before beating Spurs, summing up just what a poor result this was for Postecoglou.

Tottenham had 17 shots but could only land five on target in a frustrating afternoon.

Dominic Solanke was part of that frustration as the 27-year-old failed to replicate his goalscoring heroics against Aston Villa.

Postecoglou praised Solanke as ‘unbelievable’ against Villa but the summer signing from Bournemouth couldn’t bring Tottenham level against Ipswich.

Solanke did have one goal ruled out by VAR after his goal-bound struck his own arm, only adding to the frustration.

Postecoglou has now told Football London that Solanke ‘jarred his knee’ and the injury was ‘pretty sore’.

Solanke played through the pain to try and bring Tottenham back into the game, leaving Postecoglou to hope that there is no serious damage.

“Dom jarred his knee, it was pretty sore but he wanted to continue. Hopefully it is nothing serious,” said Postecoglou.

Don’t be surprised to see Solanke pull out of England duty

Solanke has only recently returned to the England fold, stepping up in place of Ivan Toney following his move to Saudi Arabia.

The former Liverpool man has waited a long, long time to get back in the England squad and has been called up for games against Greece and the Republic of Ireland in this international break.

It may hurt Solanke to pull out of the England squad but Sunday’s injury may be something that needs further investigation.

Tottenham won’t want Solanke’s injury becoming any worse over the international break and certainly won’t want any unnecessary risks being taken.

England teammate Phil Foden praised Solanke in the last international break but the Spurs striker may need to look after himself and pull out of these England games.
