Cristian Romero is more than happy at Tottenham Hotspur at the moment, however, with the Argentine established as one of Europe’s best defenders there is one factor that could see him push to leave.
Tottenham will have little interest in selling their best centre-back whose contract runs until the summer of 2027 and there has even been talk of Romero signing a new deal with Spurs.
If the World Cup winner was to decide to leave the North London club next summer he would not be short of options, with one major club in particular keen to land him.

Cristian Romero wants Champions League football
The Spurs News exclusively spoke to transfer insider Graeme Bailey of TBR Football, who said that Cristian Romero could still leave if Tottenham don’t obtain Champions League football.
Like all elite players around Europe, Romero wants to be playing in the Champions League and should Tottenham fail to qualify, the defender could push to leave.
Currently, Postecoglou’s team are in a great position to make it as they sit just two points off the top four following their 4-1 win over Aston Villa.
The Spurs News also understands that Romero is on Real Madrid’s list of targets, with Los Blancos keen to sign a new central defender in the coming transfer windows.
The 26-year-old will now go two seasons without playing in Europe’s elite competition and there is only so long he will continue to accept not playing in it.
Arsenal’s William Saliba is also another target for Madrid, although he could be harder to obtain if the Gunners return to the Champions League and Spurs fail to qualify.
Having said that, Daniel Levy and Tottenham would make it very tricky to prize Romero away from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and a world record deal for a defender would likely be required.
At this stage, there is unlikely to be much panic surrounding the situation with the team heading in the right direction under Postecoglou, however, it is one to keep an eye on over the rest of the season.
How are Tottenham’s Champions League hopes looking?
Three points against Aston Villa puts Tottenham in a good position to return to the Champions League with the gap between them and the top four now down to just two points.
One big factor the Lilywhites will need to sort out is their away form with the team having lost three of their four away trips this term.
They managed to throw away a two-goal lead at Brighton to lose 3-2, they failed to make their dominance against Leicester and Newcastle pay and they also handed Crystal Palace their first win of the campaign.

Should Postecoglou find a solution to their away form, Spurs will undoubtedly become one of the favourites for the Champions League spots.
