Spurs could benefit from smart sell-on clause as Marcus Edwards attracts interest from Juventus.
Tottenham Hotspur could receive a much-needed boost to their transfer fund this summer due to a sell-on clause in Marcus Edwards’ contract.
Edwards left Hotspur Way in 2019 in search of first-team minutes, agreeing to join Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes for £1m. A relatively low fee at the time, the Lilywhites also included a 50% sell-on clause into the deal.
The Englishman has since gone on to impress in Portugal bagging himself a move to Sporting CP in 2022, a deal which netted Spurs roughly £3.3m due to their clever clause.
The former Tottenham star has since gone from strength to strength in the Portuguese capital and now looks set to be on the move yet again as he attracts interest from Europe’s elite.
Juventus eye move for Marcus Edwards

Juventus have reportedly registered an interest in Edwards, with transfer Fabrizio Romano stating the Italian giants have approached Sporting and asked for the conditions of the deal.
Likely to cost in the region of £21m according to A Bola, Thiago Motta is said to be keen on bringing in a new winger this summer with the former Tottenham man said to be high on his wishlist.
The Old Lady have already failed in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi meanwhile their interest in Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho is also seemingly set to break down, with The Independent claiming PSG are the most likely to sign the United man.
So with Adeyemi and Sancho no longer seeming like viable options, Juventus may be tempted into a move for the Tottenham academy graduate.

Tottenham set for transfer windfall
If Juventus were to secure a deal for Edwards, Spurs could be set for a fresh cash injection due to their smart sell-on clause.
Originally set at 50%, the clause has since decreased to 35% according to Football.London, who state Spurs agreed to lessen their percentage as part of the deal that saw Pedro Porro arrive from Sporting.
So with the winger likely to cost in the region of £21m, Spurs could potentially land themselves a £7.35m payday which will be music to the ears of Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.
These funds could potentially be used in Tottenham’s pursuit of Manuel Locatelli or help Spurs mount a fresh Jacob Ramsey approach.
