Atletico Madrid have reportedly agreed a deal to sign long-term Tottenham target Conor Gallagher.

Tottenham’s interest in signing a new midfielder has been well-documented in recent times.

Back in June, Football.London reported that the Lilywhites were ‘prioritising’ a move for a midfielder with the likes of Conor Gallagher, Eberechi Eze and Jacob Ramsey all said to be high on the club’s wanted list.

As the Premier League season approaches though, Spurs are still yet to secure a new midfielder leaving Tottenham fans frustrated at the lack of transfer activity.

Those frustrations however only look set to grow as Spurs now look set to lose out on one of their long-term midfield targets.

Tottenham’s interest in Conor Gallagher has been made no secret over recent months, but their chances of signing the England international however now look slimmer than ever.

That is according to HITC, who state Atletico Madrid have agreed a deal worth in the region of £40million with Chelsea.

The report from Graeme Bailey goes as far as to say that Gallagher has already agreed terms with the Spanish giants, with Los Colchoneros growing increasingly confident of securing a deal for the midfielder.

This comes just days after reports suggested that Tottenham would have been willing to match Atletico’s offer if Gallagher had shown more interest in joining the Lilywhites – with the 24-year-old said to be unkeen on joining one of Chelsea’s closest rivals.

Tottenham’s failed move for Conor Gallagher could potentially see them ramp up their interest in Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey.

The 23-year-old has been on Tottenham’s radar for some time now with Villa recently rejecting Tottenham’s offer of £20m plus Giovani Lo Celso for Ramsay.

Spurs however could now return to make another offer for the England under-21 international, as Ange Postecoglou looks to bolster his midfield options ahead of the upcoming season.

Labelled as a “very important player” by Villa boss Unai Emery, any move for Ramsay will likely cost in the region of £50m – whether Spurs are willing to pay that is another question.
