Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a major injury blow after learning that Guglielmo Vicario has undergone surgery on a fractured ankle.

Vicario is now likely to miss six to 10 weeks after undergoing surgery on the injury dealing Spurs’ hopes for the season a massive blow.

Vicario revealed that he played for 60 minutes against City with the injury and still managed to become the first Premier League player to keep a clean sheet against the champions.

Now Fraser Forster is set to become the Lilywhites’ first-choice goalkeeper for the next couple of months unless they can find a solution.

Why Tottenham could sign Keylor Navas today

Tottenham fans have desperately started trying to suggest alternatives to Fraser Forster who has looked very shaky when called upon this season. The club’s supporters have been assessing the free agent market and have found a clear target.

They want Keylor Navas to be signed immediately after he was released from Nottingham Forest over the summer. Fans have taken to X to share their views on bringing in the 37-year-old.

One fan said: “Tottenham should be looking at Keylor Navas until the end of the season. He’s a good free agent & has played at the top level. Forster is nowhere near it.”

“We have to go and get Keylor Navas. Has PL experience from his time at Forest and is absolutely miles better than Forster,” another added.

Tottenham could actually add Navas to their squad right now if they wanted as Premier League rules would permit him to be registered, according to Football.London. Spurs have 23 senior players registered leaving them with two available slots to add players.

Tottenham must accelerate plans to sign top French goalkeeper

However, Tottenham should ignore the free-agent market and move for a goalkeeper who is good enough to push Vicario for his number-one jersey. Earlier this month, The Spurs News revealed that Tottenham had been watching Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier.

The French man could be the perfect signing as he is emerging as one of Europe’s hottest young goalkeeping talents. The 23-year-old’s form this season saw him named in the latest French squad.

But regardless of who it is they sign, Spurs must now push through with plans to bring in competition or an adequate backup option for the Italian. It is such poor planning from those involved to leave Postecoglou with Forster as his alternative to Vicario.
