Tottenham Hotspur have been told how long they are likely to be without Guglielmo Vicario after the goalkeeper underwent surgery on a fractured ankle.

The shot-stopper suffered the injury against Manchester City when he collided with Savinho following a loose header from Pedro Porro. Vicario revealed that he played for 60 minutes with the injury against the champions, but now he is set to miss several weeks after undergoing surgery.

Ange Postecoglou will need to start planning for life without the Italian having learnt how bad his number one’s injury is expected to be.

Guglielmo Vicario set miss six to 10 weeks with ankle injury

Guglielmo Vicario is set to miss six to 10 weeks with an ankle injury, according to Physio Scout. There is no indication as of yet that his recovery will take longer than the maximum of ten weeks, although the nature and location of the ankle injury is unclear.

However, it seems very likely that the Italian will miss multiple weeks to a couple of months having required surgery on the ankle. This is a major blow for Postecoglou’s team who are not at all prepared for an injury to their goalkeeper.

Vicario is far from Spurs’ best player, however, goalkeeper is an area in which they are very weak. 36-year-old Fraser Forster is now set to become the first choice for the next couple of months as they wait for Vicario to return.

What games will Guglielmo Vicario miss?

Vicario joins Tottenham’s growing list of injuries which already includes Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Richarlison, Wilson Odobert, Mikey Moore, Timo Werner and Destiny Udogie.

Ten weeks over the Christmas period would see Vicario miss over 17 matches in all competitions, with the FA Cup set to start in January and a potential Carabao Cup semi-final.

Vicario will miss some key games coming up including Liverpool and Chelsea in the league and Manchester United in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

Spurs may need to consider bringing in another goalkeeper in January as they cannot rely on Forster being their number one for such a long period.
