Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a major injury blow after learning that Guglielmo Vicario has undergone surgery on a fractured ankle.
Vicario is now likely to miss six to 10 weeks following a collision with Savinho in the first half of Spurs’ 4-0 win over City at the Etihad Stadium.
Rather remarkably, Vicario has revealed that he played for 60 minutes against City with the injury and still became the first Premier League player to keep a clean sheet against Pep Guardiola’s side.
Ange Postecoglou has now been forced to change his January transfer window plans after his team lost their number one for several weeks.

Tottenham ready to accelerate goalkeeper signing
Tottenham are ready to accelerate their plans to sign another goalkeeper following Guglielmo Vicario’s injury, according to The Times. Tottenham cannot afford to stick with Fraser Forster as their first-choice goalkeeper until February when the Italian is currently expected to return.
Spurs ideally want a goalkeeper who could challenge Vicario for his starting spot in the team and provide the 28-year-old with genuine competition. The Italian international was always safe in the knowledge that his place in the team was always more or less guaranteed, regardless of how he performed.
However, the North London club are aware that bringing in an experienced shot-stopper during the middle of the season is likely to be tricky. Therefore, a stopgap signing could be made during the winter window if they are unable to land one of their top targets.
Could Tottenham sign a free agent now?
Strangely enough, Tottenham could actually sign a new goalkeeper today if they were to dip into the free-agent market. Despite talk of that not being permitted, Premier League rules allow the Lilywhites to add to their squad that way.
Postecoglou’s scouting department will now be assessing their options over a new goalkeeper and signing a free-agent is surely set to be considered. Having said that, the market for free goalkeepers is very dry with Tottenham fans picking Keylor Navas as the standout candidate.
| Player | Age | Previous club |
| Keylor Navas | 37 | Nottingham Forest |
| Edgar Badia | 32 | Elche |
| Loris Karius | 31 | Newcastle |
| Tomas Koubek | 32 | Augsburg |
