The next attacker Tottenham need to sign after Savinho decision made

Spurs’ pursuit of Savinho ended in failure this summer, despite reports of the player’s willingness to join from Man City.

It was a busy window for the Lilywhites, bringing in a host of attacking talent ahead of Thomas Frank’s first season in charge.

Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons and Randal Kolo Muani have all entered the fray, but that didn’t quell Spurs’ interest in Brazilian winger Savinho.

But on Thursday, news broke from Manchester that will impact their transfer plans in the immediate future.

Man City closing in on extension for Spurs target Savinho

Fabrizio Romano revealed on X that City are in the final stages of negotiation to extend Savinho’s contract at the Etihad to 2031.

Spurs were intending to resume Savinho talks in January, though it now looks like he will be staying put.

If he is to be locked down to a new deal, Frank will have to look elsewhere for a new attacker.

The left side is a weak point for Spurs, with just two recognised left-wingers, Mathys Tel and Wilson Odobert, who are still just 20 and perhaps not ready to be relied upon week-in, week-out.

At least one of the two will be a valuable part of this side, but until they develop further, there may be a better option they can bring in to add some more experience and quality.

Spurs should target Kaoru Mitoma

This suggestion might be coming out of left field, but Kaoru Mitoma’s quality is undeniable.

The Brighton star is in his fourth season in the Premier League, and at 28, has the right blend of experience and time left before he declines. Add to that the fact that his contract with Brighton expires in June 2027, meaning, unless a renewal comes about, he should be available at a cut-price.

Spurs’ strongest forward line is hard to pick at this moment. Simons and Dejan Kulusevski are arguably the two most talented ‘wide players’, but they do their best work centrally.

Kudus has the right locked down judging by recent performances, but the left flank is crying out for another option.

If the price is right, Mitoma could be perfect for Spurs in the short term, mentoring the two young talents behind him and adding another weapon to Frank’s arsenal.
