BBC Sport pundit Micah Richards has lavished praise on one Tottenham Hotspur player for his performance on the weekend.

Although they made the fans wait until the dying minutes – once again – Spurs were able to earn all three points against Luton Town.

Ange Postecoglou was forced to make a change at half time as he was not impressed with what he was seeing from Dejan Kulusevski.

But it was a familiar face in Heung-min Son who popped up to score the winning goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

What Micah Richards said about Heung-min Son

Having lost Harry Kane in the summer, the South Korean captain has taken on a real responsibility this season at Spurs.

Of course, the 31-year-old has been providing the good for Spurs in front of goal for years now.

But this season just feels slightly different in the forward really taking on the role of dragging Tottenham through games on a number of occasions.

Although Spurs dominated the game against Luton, they were unable to find that cutting edge to find the back of the net with a number of golden opportunities.

However, Son continues to provide Spurs the points and it was apparent Richards was left impressed with the Tottenham captain.

He said: “I thought it was going to be a bad day, but then Son… wow, wow, what a player he is and continues to be! But yeah, fair play to Spurs still playing brave football, attacking football and they’re here to stay. They really are.

“I thought Johnson did well. I like the tactical switch with Kulusevski not really playing to the full potential. Brought in Johnson and did really well when he came on.”

What Alan Shearer said about Son’s first half miss

Once again, the South Korean proved to be Tottenham’s hero on the day, however, he did miss a huge chance in the first half.

It was not just Son, Timo Werner missed a massive chance after creating a brilliant opening for himself inside the box.

But it was Son’s effort which left many stunned with Alan Shearer admitting he couldn’t believe what he saw.

He said: “Incredible. I mean first of all, Tottenham do really well. Poor from Luton – maybe over-confidence. But you’re thinking goal here when he [Son] goes past the goalkeeper. Post and then post again, maybe it’s going to be Luton’s day after that!”

In the end, Son was able to put things right as he scored his 15th goal of the season in the Premier League.

And it was a goal which took him fifth in Tottenham’s all-time scoring records having surpassed Cliff Jones after netting his 160th goal for the club.

After the game, Son spoke about what it meant to him to surpass another Spurs legend in the all-time scoring records.

He said: “I’m very proud about it and I hope I can score many more goals as of right now. And I try to show my best, first of all, to say thank you to everybody and to the fans without them… football is not an individual sport, but without their help I probably couldn’t have scored one goal.”

Spurs fans will be hoping more goals are scored by the South Korean as The Spurs News understand the club are expecting a new deal to be inked by the new season.
