Son Heung-min’s age

Son is now 31 years old. The Spurs player was born on the 8th of July 1992 and is one of the more senior players at the North London club. This, combined with his quality and experience was no doubt a big reason for him becoming the club captain.

His age is actually a very interesting topic. In South Korea, the traditional method saw babies be one year old from the day they were born, with an extra year added on January 1st regardless of when their actual birthday was.

South Korea passed a new law in which they have changed how they view the ages of people in their country. Their traditional method was scrapped, and this meant that Son technically became a year younger than his traditional South Korean age. With the law changed so that the country followed the international ageing laws, Son is now still 31, as his international age was always used in his football career.

Does Son Heung-min have a wife?

Son does not currently have a wife. He has dated Korean pop stars, as well as South Korean actresses, but at this time, it looks like he is currently single. An interesting interview back in 2019 between Son and The Guardian saw the player tell the publication that his father didn’t want him to marry until after he retired from football.

As you can see from the image, Son did have to do military service for South Korea. It is an obligation in their country for every male to take part in military service before they turn 28 years old. With the Spurs attacker a professional footballer, this was a stress that the club probably did not want to have but it all worked out in the end.

Typically South Koreans have to do 21 months of military service; however, this was not the case for Son as he helped the country win the 2018 Asian Games. This saw him excused and he only had to do three weeks of military service instead. He did his military service during the COVID-19 pandemic, when Premier League football was postponed.

Son’s Tottenham transfer fee

Tottenham bought Son in 2015 from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen and he was someone unknown to most of the Premier League. At the time, the attacker was 23 years old and Spurs signed him from the German club for £18million.
