‘The Poundland Chelsea’… Alasdair Gold issues warning to Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy

Tottenham Hotspur are enduring a rollercoaster of a season, with plenty of ups but also plenty of downs.

Spurs have shown they can beat anyone convincingly on their day, but far too often there have been dismal results against teams they were favourites to beat.

In addition, Tottenham’s transfer business continues to yield mixed results, and the decision not to sign a centre-back in summer is now rearing its ugly head.

Ben Davies came off with a hamstring injury against Bournemouth, leaving Spurs with just one fit senior centre-back in the squad for the remainder of the game.

Tottenham’s loss to the Cherries led to pressure mounting on Ange Postecoglou and speculation doing the rounds about potential replacements.

Alasdair Gold has now taken to YouTube with a stern warning for Daniel Levy not to part company with the Australian.

Alasdair Gold warns Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy not to sack Ange Postecoglou

Gold, speaking on his personal channel, said he was dreading the prospect of Spurs potentially sacking yet another manager.

He said this would make Tottenham “the Poundland Chelsea without the success” and despaired at the prospect of “allowing someone else to be the face of failure” at N17.

“It kind of feels like Postecoglou is their first real attempt to actually do that (forge an identity at the club) probably since Pochettino,” said Gold.

“It’s like, if you’re going to abandon his project, as they’ve done with so many others in the past, it’s only really going to throw further light, for me, on the owners, the chairman.

“Failing and being able to build a football club on the pitch as well as they have off the pitch, it’s like the stadium’s lovely, the training ground’s lovely, that’s great.

“But if you’re not building something on the pitch, it’s all pretty window dressing really,

“A couple of reporters, we talk about afterwards like, you know, what if Spurs did do it again? What if Spurs did try and hide behind the sacking of a manager again?

“I don’t think any of us would have the energy to go through it, honestly. It’s so boring, it’s so predictable, it’s so what Tottenham do. They are the Poundland Chelsea, without the success.

“They will look for that, almost like hiding in the shadows and allowing someone else to be the face of failure, and it’s just it’s so wrong, it really is.

“There’s only so many times you can blame the manager, especially when you’re the one constantly appointing them, as Daniel Levy is.”

Tottenham’s stance towards Postecoglou future

Although pressure is building on Postecoglou and Tottenham, it looks as though Spurs are going to stick with their manager.

“Spurs are not going to panic,” transfer insider Graeme Bailey told The Spurs News earlier this week.

“Clearly they are not happy with how things have gone but neither is Ange or the players, they think they have the right manager and that hasn’t changed due to a poor run of form.

“Obviously if they end the season in 10th, then clearly they won’t be happy and conversations will be had, but they still have huge confidence in the squad – especially when fully fit.”
