Tottenham’s recent inconsistency was once again on full show at Selhurst Park as Crystal Palace came away with a 1-0 win.
Crystal Palace’s winless start to the Premier League season led many to believe Tottenham would come away with the victory on Sunday – Spurs however would have other ideas.
The Lilywhites were outfought and outthought by Oliver Glasner’s men and never looked like scoring all afternoon.
Tottenham’s toothless performance was compounded by Guglielmo Vicario’s claims that Spurs did not show enough ‘fight’ – a sentiment that has been echoed by Alan Shearer and Micah Richards.

Micah Richards and Alan Shearer criticise ‘flat’ Tottenham performance
Tottenham have unsurprisingly earned themself a fair few critics for their display against the Eagles, with Shearer and Richards recently honing in on the Selhurst Park defeat
Whilst speaking on the ‘The Rest is Football’ podcast, Shearer claimed Spurs may have been feeling the after-effects of the win against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League, on Thursday evening.
“That will be a huge win for Crystal Palace, if they were ever going to get something, I thought it may today after Tottenham being in Europe on Thursday and then playing an away game, they were a little bit flat and they didn’t create as many chances,” Shearer said.
Richards echoed Shearer’s Spurs criticism, even highlighting Pedro Porro as one of Tottenham’s worst performers.
“I think Spurs were sloppy. I think Pedro Porro gave the ball away twenty-odd times throughout the whole game.”
Pedro Porro’s sloppy Crystal Palace display backed up by damming stats
Porro’s disappointing performance against Crystal Palace is one that would come as a surprise to Spurs supporters due to the right-back’s impressive displays this campaign.
The Spaniard has been one of Tottenham’s most consistent performers this season, so much so Porro has even attracted interest from Real Madrid.
Porro though will be hoping Carlo Ancelotti wasn’t watching his display at Selhurst Park, as the stats below show the former Sporting man had a rough ninety minutes to say the least, particularly when it comes to on the ball.
Pedro Porro stats vs Crystal Palace
Minutes played – 90
Match rating – 6.6
Accurate passes – 42/60 (70%)
Accurate crosses – 2/14 (14%
Accurate long balls – 7/14 (50%)
