Tottenham’s quest for European glory had been plain sailing up until their visit to Turkey.

With three wins from three and sat joint top of the newly-formed Europa League table, Ange Postecoglou’s side headed into matchday four confident of extending their impressive run.

Tottenham however would be beaten 3-2 by Galatasaray, with Victor Osimhen and co overwhelming the young Spurs side on the night.

With four games remaining, the Lilywhites still sit in the automatic qualification spots – currently sat in 7th place.

Next up for Spurs is a tough tie against Roma – a tie that could bring back some unwanted memories for Tottenham supporters.

Claudio Ranieri could again haunt Spurs following Roma appointment

Having just won one of their opening four games in the Europa League, some could suggest Tottenham may make lightwork of Roma.

That however may have all just changed following the Italian side’s latest appointment.

After sacking Ivan Juric after just 12 games in charge, Roma have appointed veteran manager Claudio Ranieri.

Ranieri is of course very well-known in England, having famously guided Leicester City to a historic Premier League crown in 2016.

The Foxes’ triumph is a fairy-tale that is loved by most fans – but it is ultimately a story that brings a ‘feeling of what if?’ for Spurs supporters – with Leicester pipping Mauricio’s Pochettino’s Tottenham to the title that season.

Ranieri’s record against Tottenham will worry fans

Seven years have passed since Spurs lost out to Ranieri’s Foxes – but Tottenham fans will no doubt still feel the effects of the 73-year-old’s Leicester heroics to this day.

Those same fans will be hoping Ranieri doesn’t come back to haunt Spurs once again when the Roma visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on November 28.

Postecoglou has been bullish about Tottenham’s trophy hopes but Ranieri’s record against the Lilywhites suggests he could possibly put a dent in their European ambitions.

With Jose Mourinho claiming Tottenham are favourites to win the Europa League, Spurs will ultimately have to prove that against Roma – in what will be their toughest test of the competition so far.
