Harry Redknapp believes that newly appointed Tottenham interim manager Igor Tudor must keep Cristian Romero as the captain.
Tottenham have appointed Tudor until the end of the season following their decision to sack Thomas Frank earlier this week.
One of the big tasks facing the Croatian manager is being without his captain, Romero, for his first three matches due to a suspension.
🤔 You decide: Should Tottenham STRIP or KEEP Cristian Romero as the captain?
Romero was sent off against Manchester United and is now set to miss Tudor’s first three Premier League matches in charge.
There has been much talk around whether Romero should remain Tottenham’s captain, but Redknapp has just given his verdict on the situation.
Harry Redknapp thinks Cristian Romero should remain Tottenham captain
Harry Redknapp believes that Cristian Romero should remain Tottenham captain to avoid the risk of Igor Tudor immediately losing him.
The former Juventus boss will need to keep all of his best players on side as he looks to give them a fresh outlook following Frank’s departure.
Stripping Romero of his captaincy would instantly lose the Argentine, and right now, Tudor cannot afford to be without the 27-year-old.
Speaking to The Sun, Redknapp said: “That means the problems are far deeper than the squad. There are still a few players Tudor will need to deal with, and none more so than the captain, Cristian Romero.
“You cannot take the armband away from him, as much as that would seem an easy fix. Strip Romero of the captaincy, and then you have lost him from day one.”
👀 Tell us your MAIN CONCERN about Tottenham appointing Igor Tudor…
Tudor deploys a back-three; therefore, given that his centre-back options are already limited, Romero will be key for him.
There’s no doubt that Romero is one of the most talented defenders in Europe, but Tudor must get him to rein in his rashness.
Igor Tudor faces an immediate Tottenham issue
As mentioned, Spurs’ centre-back options have been rather reduced following Romero’s suspension.
Kevin Danso is also out for a while, leaving Tottenham with just two senior central defenders in Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin.
Tudor will need to find an alternative option in the squad, with Joao Palhinha or Archie Gray two options he could deploy against Arsenal.
Jun’ai Byfield is another player Tudor could use, but using such a young player in a North London derby would be a risk.
