One player who left Tottenham Hotspur on deadline day wanted to leave north London much sooner.
Tottenham were active in the summer transfer window, with the club both signing and selling players.
There were some big arrivals as Xavi Simons and Mohammed Kudus joined Spurs from RB Leipzig and West Ham United respectively.
Kudus’ arrival did not force Manor Solomon out of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but the winger and Brayan Gil both eventually departed the club on deadline day.

Tottenham didn’t want to terminate Bryan Gil’s contract
Gil joined La Liga side Girona after spending the 2024/25 season there on loan.
The wide man really enjoyed his time at the Spanish outfit and was keen to rejoin them, but it took until the end of the summer transfer window for him to get a permanent transfer after Spurs’ refusal to terminate his contract.
After being presented as a new Girona signing, Gil told AS and the rest of the Spanish media: “There was talk of terminating my contract with Tottenham, but they never wanted it. If that had been the case, I would have been here by July, and everyone would have felt more at ease.”
In total, the 24-year-old made 43 appearances for Tottenham, failing to score a single goal in any of them.
Ultimately, it was time for a permanent exit, with Spurs having other options for the left flank. They could also add to that in January.
It is thought that Tottenham have an interest in Malick Fofana, who was heavily linked with a move to England during the summer.

Bryan Gil explains why he couldn’t be happy at Tottenham
Gil was far from content with life at Tottenham and has opened up on his time in north London.
In the same press conference with the Spanish media, the former Sevilla star said: “I’ve changed teams a lot; I couldn’t be happy at Tottenham because if you don’t play, you’re not happy, and I’m going to be happy here. It’s important to be happy to be able to perform at the highest level and make it back to the national team.”
For whatever reason, things just did not work out for Gil at Spurs. Again, then, a permanent transfer to Girona made sense, especially after his loan spell with them last term.
The Spain international is still only 24 years of age, so he still has time to fulfil his potential.
