Fabrizio Romano has detailed what Zinedine Zidane’s preference is as Tottenham are now looking for a new manager.

Tottenham sacked Thomas Frank the morning after the 2-1 loss against Newcastle United at home.

With that result, Spurs find themselves 16th on the Premier League table, and are in the midst of a relegation battle.

Zinedine Zidane has eyes on the France job

Romano took to YouTube to speak about Zidane’s future as both Spurs and Real Madrid are in the hunt for new permanent managers.

While Madrid have Alvaro Arbeloa for the time being, the North London club have not yet decided if they want an interim boss or if they are looking for a permanent appointment.

Roberto De Zerbi is now available, while Jermain Defoe has also admitted that he would be open to taking over the reins.

However, one man who is not expected to be the next manager is Zidane.

Romano claims that he is not keen on moving to the Premier League and his priority is to manage France after the World Cup.

He said on YouTube: “At the moment, guys I keep maintaining many of you ask me if Zinedine Zidane can be part of this conversation, maybe for Real Madrid, maybe for Tottenham.

“Zidane is not keen on the Premier League from what I understand at this stage, and Zidane is fully focused on the France job after the World Cup 2026.”

What is the best approach now for Tottenham?

Tottenham have not been consistent in their managerial approach for years.

After Mauricio Pochettino, who was known for playing attacking football and building a squad, they went for Jose Mourinho, who prioritised short-term success at the expense of good football.

Going for Antonio Conte also made little sense, and then they hired Ange Postecoglou, a polar opposite stylistically.

The board need to decide how they want to shape the next five or ten years and then hire a manager who can do that and also get the best out of the players currently at the club.

Thomas Frank did well at Brentford, but had a very good structure supporting him, and the lack of it, as seen at Spurs, led to his downfall.

De Zerbi would certainly excite the fans, but it remains to be seen whether or not he would be a good fit within the structure.
