Thomas Frank has been sacked by Tottenham after their 2-1 loss against Newcastle in the Premier League.

Spurs find themselves in 16th place in the league, and Frank’s job was untenable at the club despite their decent run in the Champions League.

Now, the Lilywhites are considering all options to bring in someone in place for the North London derby against Arsenal on 22 February.

Roberto De Zerbi available after Marseille development

Roberto De Zerbi has been linked with Tottenham in the past, even when he was in charge of Brighton.

He played good football with the Seagulls, and he got them to punch above their weight against some of the top sides in the Premier League.

Under his stewardship, Brighton played an expansive style of football and outplayed most of the teams in the English top flight.

Spurs sacking Frank has coincided with De Zerbi leaving Marseille, and the timing could not be more perfect for them.

The Italian left the Ligue 1 club by mutual consent after their 5-0 defeat against PSG and also their exit from the Champions League, losing 3-0 to Club Brugge.

Should Tottenham turn to the 46-year-old, they would not have to pay any compensation and would be able to bring him in right away.

Is De Zerbi the best fit for Tottenham?

De Zerbi had issues with the Brighton board in his final months at the club, and he did not leave on the best of terms.

The Seagulls are known to be among the best-run clubs in Europe, and for the Italian to have a problem even with them suggests he could be a disruptive figure.

That said, Tottenham fans would love someone who is capable of changing things and holding the board to account in order to help the team become a regular Champions League outfit like they were under Mauricio Pochettino.

He could get certain assurances before accepting the job, and that could force the hierarchy’s hand in order to give him what he wants to succeed and take the club to the next level.

It remains to be seen if the Lilywhites do indeed hire De Zerbi.
