Tottenham Hotspur were rampant in their 4-0 Premier League over Everton at the weekend as they quickly made amends for their first game of the season.

Spurs were wasteful in the 1-1 draw against Leicester City but there were no such complaints on Saturday as they ran the Toffees ragged.

Tottenham were up and running in the 14th minute as the returning Yves Bissouma fired home from the edge of the box via the underside of the bar.

Spurs were then two up just 11 minutes later as Jordan Pickford’s heavy touch from a back pass allowed Son Heung-min to claim the ball and slot into the empty net.

Cristian Romero then added a third in the 71st minute, the defender marking his 100th club appearance by rising highest at a corner to nod home via the woodwork.

Son then got his second of the game six minutes later, firing a simple finish through Pickford’s legs after great work from the marauding Micky van de Ven.

Tottenham’s emphatic win meant considerable representation in Alan Shearer’s latest Premier League Team of the Week.

Alan Shearer hails Tottenham trio Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Son Heung-min

Shearer named Van de Ven, Romero and Son in his selection, and spoke highly about all three players on the Premier League website.

“Gave a tireless display at both ends of the pitch,” Shearer said of the £43million Dutchman. “Nothing got past him, and his brilliant run set up Spurs’ fourth goal.”

The Premier League legend then said of Romero: “Scored Spurs’ third goal with a towering header and ensured it was a tough afternoon for Everton’s forwards.”

Finally, Shearer said about Son: “Playing as a centre-forward in Dominic Solanke’s absence, he ran Everton ragged, and also scored twice.”

Great afternoon all-round for Tottenham

Troy Deeney, who selects the Premier League Team of the Week on BBC Sport, also picked Van de Ven, Romero and Son in his XI.

There was also considerable attention on Wilson Odobert as he shone in his Tottenham debut following his move from Burnley earlier this month.

All in all, a great afternoon for Spurs, who are next back in action on Sunday when they head to Newcastle in a 1:30pm kick-off.
