What Fabian Hurzeler thinks is so different about Tottenham this season under Thomas Frank

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has admitted Tottenham have an ‘unbelievable’ advantage this season that he couldn’t help but notice.

The Seagulls hosted Spurs at the AMEX on Saturday, with the Premier League sides seeing out a 2-2 draw despite Brighton going 2-0 up early on. Tottenham fought back to earn a point courtesy of a Richarlison goal just before half time and a late Jan Paul van Hecke own goal.

Thomas Frank’s side are now unbeaten in their last three games after picking up wins against West Ham and Villarreal and battling for a point late on on the south coast.

Hurzeler was in charge of Brighton when they beat Tottenham twice in the league last term – and he has pinpointed one ‘big difference’ between those sides and the one that he faced this weekend.

Fabian Hurzeler thinks Tottenham have ‘unbelievable options’ this season

Asked what he thought the big difference was between this Tottenham side and the one under Ange Postecoglou, he said: “I think that’s not my job to judge work from other coaches, but from what I could see today, there were two teams on the pitch today with a lot of energy, a lot of intensity.

“A squad where they could sub really, really good players. So, I think they have a lot of energy and a lot of quality on the bench, so when you look at the bench, it’s unbelievable the options they have.

“I think that’s maybe the biggest difference.”

Tottenham brought Xavi Simons, Archie Gray, Brennan Johnson and Djed Spence on in the second half.

Xavi Simons’ impact from the bench against Brighton

Simons pushed Tottenham towards their equaliser when he came on to register another 32 minutes in a Tottenham shirt.

He was deployed in his natural number 10 position after being put on the left wing by Frank since he joined the club, and added another level of creativity to Spurs’ attack.

The Dutchman’s cameo saw him make 16 accurate passes, take three shots and draw one foul.

Tottenham fans think he is now undroppable in the no. 10 role, but he will likely be rested for the Carabao Cup clash with Doncaster Rovers.
