Tottenham defender Destiny Udogie has had a slow start to the new season, largely down to a knee injury that saw him miss a few matches. However, he’s now back training with the group and has had some substitute appearances recently.
Destiny Udogie, 22, had a strong campaign last year at left-back for Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou. His aim now will be to win over current Spurs manager Thomas Frank.
Spurs fans desperately want Udogie to start against Brighton when they travel to the Amex Stadium this Saturday in the Premier League. Will the Italy international be handed his first start of the season, though?
So far this season, Djed Spence has impressed in Frank’s system at left-back, even though he’s a right-footer.

Destiny Udogie captured doing individual work on crossing
On YouTube, Spurs uploaded some footage from the club’s work on the training pitches this week at Hotspur Way.
It is fascinating to see that they shared Udogie doing some individual work with a few coaches, where they were focused on crosses into the penalty box.
In 69 Spurs appearances, Udogie only has two goals and four assists, which is very low for a player with his talent. It is great to see the club have identified his attacking play, namely crossing, needs a bit of improvement with hard work behind the scenes.
The 22-year-old full-back is superb with his energy up and down the left flank, but he just needs a bit more composure in the final third.

What Ashley Cole once said about Destiny Udogie
In terms of left-backs, Ashley Cole ranks as one of the Premier League’s very best. It’s why his comments about Udogie last year are quite telling.
Back in April 2024, Cole delivered very high praise on Udogie. He said: “Technically, you have to be better than my generation of full-back, which you have to applaud and give credit to the top ones – Trent [Alexander-Arnold], Reece James, [Andy] Robertson, bombing up and down, and can do everything. Udogie at Tottenham I think is elite.”
Let’s wait and see what sort of level Spurs youngster Udogie can reach as improves as a player, both offensively and defensively.
At the moment, his immediate challenge is trying to dislodge Spence from the best XI.
