Rotation is going to be on the menu for Tottenham when they return to EFL Cup action on Wednesday, and The Spurs News have picked out three players who must start against Doncaster.

Thomas Frank made a handful of changes to his side to take on Brighton on Saturday, and looked as if they could be tasting defeat for the second time in the Premier League this season.

However, a late fightback rescued a point for Spurs, with Xavi Simons impressing off the bench in a central position that fans have been crying out to see him in since he joined.

Facing lower league opposition gives the manager the chance to make plenty of changes to his XI, protecting his starting players for Premier League and Champions League matches.

The Spurs News have named three players who must start the EFL Cup game, including one player who will be starting for the first time under Frank.

Archie Gray

Archie Gray spent the majority of his first season at Spurs playing in a central defensive position due to the mounting injury problems at the back under Ange Postecoglou.

So far, both Cristian Romero and Micky van der Ven have avoided serious issues, however this has largely brought an end to his minutes in the Premier League.

The game against Doncaster brings an opportunity for him to start in his natural position of central midfield, and put his name back into the conversation of players who should be starting regularly under Frank.

Randal Kolo Muani

Since joining Spurs on loan, their new striker is yet to start a game ahead of either Richarlison or Mathys Tel.

Randal Kolo Muani missed the last game due to a dead leg, an injury that is not expected to keep him out for a prolonged period of time.

The game against Doncaster offers the Frenchman a start when the stakes are lower, giving him the best possible opportunity to ease himself into action for the North London club.

Kevin Danso

The brilliant performances of Van der Ven and Romero have given very little opportunity for other centre-backs to stake their claim this season.

This has left Kevin Danso waiting in the wings to make his impact, despite impressing since he joined the club for £21m (BBC Sport).

Frank will be well aware he will need to rely on more than just his starting centre-backs, especially after their injury problems in the past, and Danso has the chance to make himself a regular option with a strong performance against Doncaster.
