Tottenham Hotspur are now looking to step up their pursuit of their first permanent signing of this summer’s transfer window.

Although the players have streamed out of Hotspur Way already this summer, Tottenham are yet to bring in any permanent signings.

Timo Werner is the only player to have made his arrival at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer as Spurs secured another loan deal for the German winger.

Ange Postecoglou‘s Tottenham were able to secure themselves a fifth-placed finish last season which means they will be playing significantly more games next season.

A new format in the Europa League will require the Lilywhites to enter the new campaign with a squad filled with quality in depth.

And that is exactly what Spurs are looking to do as they consider a second approach for one of their summer targets.

Tottenham eyeing player they’ve already made bid for

It has already been suggested Spurs have put forward an offer to Aston Villa for their 23-year-old midfielder Jacob Ramsey.

Postecoglou outcast Giovani Lo Celso is said to have been put forward to Villa as well as an additional £20m cash proposal.

However, the offer was said to have been knocked back by Unai Emery’s side who are looking ahead to a season in the Champions League.

According to the Evening Standard, Spurs are now considering an improved deal for the Villa midfielder.

The report states Tottenham’s desire to bring in a new box-to-box midfielder this summer to really bolster the options Postecoglou has available.

On top of their need to improve the midfield, Spurs are also well aware they are under pressure to meet the UEFA regulations for homegrown players to play in the Europa League.

Villa could find themselves under pressure to sell some players but they are also believed to value Ramsey between £40m and £50m with his manager hailing him “very important“.

Spurs need to bolster their midfield

The midfield has to be one of the main areas of improvement for Tottenham with a number of exits over the course of the summer.

Tanguy Ndombele has already made away and the likes of Lo Celso and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could soon follow him.

Not only will that require Spurs to build up the numbers in the midfield but Postecoglou also has to improve the quality with the likes of Yves Bissouma far from impressing last season.

Considering pre-season starts very soon and Spurs are yet to make any moves, a busy few weeks could await.
