Tottenham Hotspur have made a surprise bid for the Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong on a four-year deal.
The Lilywhites were unable to bring in any midfielders to provide immediate cover in the January window with Lucas Bergvall set to join up with the squad in the summer.
But it seems as if the midfield additions may not stop with the young Swede over the coming months as Tottenham eye the Dutch star, De Jong.

Tottenham make Frenkie De Jong bid
According to Spanish outlet Jijantes, Ange Postecoglou’s side have made a €60m (£51m) offer to the La Liga giants for their 26-year-old star.
It is claimed the offer on the table from the Lilywhites includes variables and would offer the Dutch international a four-year deal on the same wages as he earns at the Nou Camp – if targets are met.
With the report suggesting other Premier League clubs are interested in the midfielder, Spurs have now risen to the front as the most proactive for his signature.
This comes just over a week following reports of Spurs making a £60m move for Barcelona winger Raphinha.

What Frenkie De Jong earns at Barcelona
According to Capology, the Dutch midfielder is earning a whopping €1.1m-per-week (£938k) including bonuses.
Obviously, this is a huge amount of money and would easily break our wage structure and would surely be a big issue to overcome.
The Tottenham midfield has seen some impressive performances this season with the likes of Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma both standout performers.
But we are talking about a player who has been playing at the top level for a number of years now and has several trophies in his cabinet.
He has clearly impressed the former Barcelona midfielder and current manager, with Xavi previously heaping the praise on him: “He’s an extraordinary footballer. A midfielder that is not afraid to receive the ball in difficult areas, I’ll repeat it, he’s a very good player,” he said following the player’s signing.
With the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg expected to move on in the summer, this would feel like a huge addition to the squad.
However, this is a big-money move which would likely mean he’d require a spot in the starting XI and whether he could uproot some of the current players may be up for debate.
