Tottenham Hotspur now seem inches away from their first January incoming.

Ange Postecoglou looks to have secured his first summer signing, but remarkable it isn’t Radu Dragusin – it looks to be Timo Werner.

Fabrizio Romano gave an infamous ‘Here we go!’ today, which is the football equivalent of an inevitably to happen in the transfer world that Werner would be joining up with Postecoglou and his coaching staff at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on loan.

The German is set to have his medical very soon at Hotspur Way. A deal formulated in 2015 – coming to life in 2024.

Timo Werner acknowledged by Tottenham in 2015

Way back before Werner made his mark at RB Leipzig, Tottenham were speculated to sign the striker as early as 2015.

This was back when Werner was completely unknown, back at Stuttgart.

If this deal had come to fruition, he may have bypassed his Leipzig and Chelsea days altogether. It is funny how the world works with a deal set to be finalised a whopping eight years later in 2024.

Where does Timo Werner fit in at Tottenham Hotspur?

After his rather unsuccessful spell at Chelsea, fans will be wondering just where Werner fits in at Tottenham.

Amid his questionable finishing abilities, there is one thing about the 27-year-old that is an undeniable fact. He possesses an immense amount of speed.

Ange Potsecoglou’s fast-flowing football does suit a forward running in behind, and this is where Werner excels.

Despite his Premier League history – Werner has a past of scoring goals for fun. Particularly at Leipzig, he was one of Europe’s hottest strikers.

He just needs to refind that form, and Tottenham could have a gem on their hands.
