‘Interesting’… Tottenham already looking to sign two new players in same position this summer

Tottenham Hotspur are already looking at Riccardo Calafiori and Morato as centre-back options ahead of the summer transfer window.

Even thought the winter market has just shut its doors a matter of weeks ago, focus has already shifted for Johan Lange.

And it seems the recent addition of Radu Dragusin is not seen as enough for Ange Postecoglou who is looking to bolster his options at the back.

Tottenham eyeing Calafiori and Morato

There have been recent links to Spurs’ interest in Calafiori and Morato ahead of the summer as the club look to add more options at centre-back.

But it is apparent these are not the only options who are on the radar with the likes of Lloyd Kelly and Tosin Adarabioyo also names linked to the Lilywhites.

And now according to journalist Dean Jones, there are already plans in place to go for another centre-back with options already emerging: “The situation hasn’t changed, and Tottenham have always intended to sign two top-level centre-backs across 2024,” he said.

“They’ve got one through the door, and now, in the summer window, the plan is to go after another. Calafiori and Morato might be mentioned now, but the net is being cast wider than that. They’ve got some interesting options opening up to them. Still, from what I understand, they’re not committing at this stage, even though they want to make early moves in the summer transfer window similar to how they did in the winter market.”

Fierce competition in defence

The early stages of Dragusin’s time in north London has seen the defender’s entourage speaking out over his lack of game tome.

And Postecoglou has a seriously exciting young centre-back who could potentially be claiming a stake for a spot in the squad next season.

Young Ashley Phillips has certainly caught the eye of the Plymouth Argyle fans during his loan spell on the south coast this season.

However, it seems as if Postecoglou is still keen on another centre-back being added to the squad over the summer.

Champions League football is the target going into the remaining games of the season, but any form of European football will see Spurs requiring strong squad depth with rotation needed.

It may become a matter of Postecoglou needing to keep numerous players happy, though, if more arrivals are to come through the doors at Hotspur Way in defence.
