Tottenham Hotspur are showing an interest in the Benfica central defender Morato ahead of the summer transfer window.
We have already seen a number of centre-backs come through the doors in north London since the summer, but that may not be the end of strengthening our backline.
The prospect of potentially playing Champions League football next season could alter the transfer plans ahead of the summer with stronger depth possibly required to handle European football.

Tottenham leading race for Morato
According to a report from Portuguese outlet Record, we are the club who are leading the race for the Brazilian defender.
However, the 22-year-old is believed to have a €100m (£85m) release clause in his current contract with. the Portuguese giants.
And they are a side who have proven over the years they will get what they demand for their star players such as Darwin Nunez and Joao Felix.
But, what might play in Tottenham’s advantage. the defender is said to be keen on the prospect of a potential move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham’s centre-back options
Aside from Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin, Spurs have an extremely exciting youngster currently out on loan.
England youth prospect Ashley Phillips is catching the eye in his loan spell with the Championship side Plymouth Argyle.
But this is a potential arrival which would likely arrive and be banging on Ange Postecoglou’s door at Hotspur Way
Morato has become a key member of the Benfica starting XI now and you have to wonder whether Postecoglou would be able to keep four top quality centre-backs happy with their game time if he arrived.
There has already been the suggestion that it won’t be long until some of Europe’s finest will come knocking for Van de Ven.
However, Dragusin is already having difficulty in forcing his way into the starting XI.
