FC Barcelona are not planning to sign Tottenham Hotspur attacker Xavi Simons this summer for a number of reasons.
After just one season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Simons could be on the move from Spurs, especially if they were to be relegated.
What grade do you give Xavi Simons’ time at Tottenham so far? 🤔
The Dutch attacker has had a mixed campaign at Spurs so far, producing just five goals and six assists in 40 matches.
The former Barcelona academy star has been linked with a move away; however, a return to the Camp Nou is now being ruled out.
Barcelona will not sign Xavi Simons from Tottenham
FC Barcelona will not be making a move to sign Xavi Simons from Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to Sport.
The 22-year-old spent several years at La Masia, Barcelona’s famed academy, before making the switch to Paris Saint-Germain.
Simons was one of the best young talents to emerge from La Masia, but he decided to leave for the French capital, which was quite a controversial move.
Now, the Dutch international has been linked with a possible return, but the report from Spain has shut down those suggestions.
💰 How much is Xavi Simons now worth to Tottenham after sigining him for £51m?
Firstly, a move for Simons would be way too expensive, with Tottenham having paid around £50 million to sign him from RB Leipzig last summer.
The North London club would demand at least £40 million to consider selling him, which just would not be feasible for Barcelona.
Meanwhile, the Catalan club are considering other areas of the squad to upgrade instead and would rather promote youth players than make a big addition like Simons.
Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven could join Barcelona
Meanwhile, Simons’ Tottenham and Dutch teammate Micky van de Ven could join Barcelona, as they look for a defender.
Tottenham did want a British record for Van de Ven, although that value could well drop following his recent poor form.
Van de Ven was shocking against Nottingham Forest, and Spurs might look to move him on in the summer whilst his stock remains high.
The Lilywhites may not have a choice if they are relegated, and Spurs dropping into the Championship means a deal could be very likely.
