Tottenham Hotspur had endured some misfires in the transfer market and the Jose Mourinho era doesn’t look so good in retrospect.

Tottenham Hotspur backed Jose Mourinho in the transfer window but his record in the market looks rather poor now.

Mourinho’s first transfer window saw him bring in Gedson Fernandes and Steven Bergwijn.

Fernandes barely featured on loan from Benfica whilst Bergwijn was sold to Ajax for £26.5million in 2022 after making little impact.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was the pick of the bunch from the summer additions but Matt Doherty couldn’t solve the right back issue, Carlos Vinicius struggled outside of scoring against Marine and Gareth Bale’s emotional return was only a loan.

Sergio Reguilon’s Tottenham Hotspur future

Bale didn’t arrive from Real Madrid alone.

Spurs also signed left back Sergio Reguilon on in a £32million move from Real (Sky Sports) after seeing him impress on loan at Sevilla.

Reguilon initially impressed but was phased out of the team under Antonio Conte and has since spent time on loan at Atletico Madrid, Manchester United and Brentford.

The 27-year-old is now completely unwanted at Tottenham and the time as come for him to move on in 2025.

Caught Offside now report that Reguilon is planning to terminate his Tottenham contract in January.

Reguilon wants to leave Tottenham and play first-team football elsewhere and believes that ripping up his contract is the best way.

Sevilla and Getafe are understood to be interested in signing Reguilon and Tottenham are ready to facilitate a departure.

Ange Postecoglou stance on Sergio Reguilon

It’s pretty clear that Reguilon just isn’t needed at Tottenham.

Destiny Udogie is first choice at left back and Ange Postecoglou would almost certainly call on Archie Gray or Ben Davies ahead of Reguilon in that position.

Tottenham allowed Reguilon to seek a summer exit but no deal materialised and Postecoglou made it clear that Reguilon would not be part of his plans.

West Ham United wanted Reguilon over the summer with his former Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui in charge in East London.

Whether or not that interest returns remains to be seen but Reguilon wasn’t even on the bench against Ipswich Town on Sunday and he surely counting down the days t leave the club in January.
