Take a look at Tottenham’s most expensive transfer signings of all time, brought to you by The Spurs News.

Tottenham have often been shrewd operators when it comes to working around the transfer market. Spurs owners have been criticised in the past for perhaps not giving the funds needed to compete with those around the top.

However, times appear to be changing as the club continue to work smart with their transfers, while loosening their purse strings. With that said, here’s a look at the ten most expensive Tottenham transfer signings of all time, with six of those coming in the past two years.

Micky van de Ven has impressed in his short time at Tottenham so far, with plenty of his best years still ahead of him. The pacey defender cost an initial £34.5million that could rise by another £10million, should certain add-ons be reached.

9 – Archie Gray – £40m

Archie Gray was signed by Spurs for £40m in the summer of 2024, following an impressive stint at boyhood club Leeds United. The deal also saw defender Joe Rodon head the other way for £10m.

Gray is expected to play a key part in Tottenham’s future having joined the club at just 18-years-old.

8 – Pedro Porro – £40m

Pedro Porro joined Tottenham on an initial loan deal from Sporting CP in January 2023 to strengthen their ranks before a permanent deal was secured in the summer. The right-back joined for roughly £40million and has been a key player since.

James Maddison had already established himself as a star in the Premier League with Leicester City, but following their relegation, an exit seemed likely. While there was an offer at Newcastle, the playmaker joined Spurs for £40million.

Maddison has impressed for the Lilywhites since, with hopes he can finally be the club’s answer to Eriksen’s exit.

6 – Davinson Sanchez – £42m

Davinson Sanchez became the record Tottenham signing in 2017 when he joined for roughly £42million from Ajax. The centre-back struggled to find consistency in his performances, leading towards his eventual exit in September 2023 to Galatasaray.

5 – Cristian Romero – £42million

Cristian Romero garnered plenty of attention in Serie A with Atalanta, before making the loan move to Tottenham. The switch included an option for a permanent transfer, which Spurs triggered for £42million in 2022, which has proven to be a good deal ever since.

4 – Brennan Johnson – £47.5m

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou pushed hard to secure a late move for Brennan Johnson on summer transfer deadline day 2023. The winger joined from Nottingham Forest for a fee worth £47.5million, with plenty of promise for the future.

3 – Richarlison – £60million

Richarlison impressed with Everton before making the £60million transfer to Tottenham, with hopes of offering another strong striker option. The Brazilian struggled at first, but has started to find some form under Postecoglou to justify his transfer fee.

Tanguy Ndombele joined the Lilywhites from French side Lyon for £63million. The playmaker has been something of a flop for Spurs, featuring 91 times for the club but failing to match the transfer price. Ndombele left Tottenham in the summer of 2024, following the termination of his Spurs deal.
