Why Tottenham’s £165k-per-week player’s display vs Manchester United could be great news for Mikey Moore

Mikey Moore could be set for some really exciting news after one of Tottenham’s starters against Manchester United had an underwhelming display.

Spurs ran riot in the Manchester rain on Sunday afternoon as Ange Postecoglou’s side cruised to a 3-0 win at Old Trafford. Goals from Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke secured the three points.

Micky van de Ven provided an outrageous assist to open the scoring as the 23-year-old intercepted a loose pass in his own half, he then galavanted through the entire United team to tee up Johnson for a tap-in.

But the afternoon was made extra special for Moore who managed to secure his first meaningful Premier League minutes at Old Trafford as he came on for 14 minutes. Now, he will be hoping for more game time and he may well get it.

Mikey Moore must start vs Ferencvarosi

Timo Werner’s display against Manchester United was so poor that it has to show Ange Postecoglou it is now time to put his trust in Moore.

Heung-min Son and Wilson Odobert are both expected to miss the trip to Hungary due to injury. The Tottenham boss has revealed that he is unsure when Son is due to return yet.

Therefore, Werner and Moore are the only two remaining options and the German would just so bad against United, that it is time to hand Moore his chance.

The former Chelsea forward spurned several opportunities to put the game to bed and was generally very frustrating to watch.

Meanwhile, the 17-year-old produced a solid cameo against the Red Devils as he proved a handful for Noussair Mazraoui down the left-hand side.

Tottenham fans sang his name throughout the match and the chants only grew louder as Werner continued to waste chances.

He nearly capped off a fine cameo with a goal as he picked up the ball on the edge of the area and curled an effort just wide of Andre Onana’s goal.

It could be a baptism of fire for the youngster but he has shown more than enough signs that he is ready for his first senior start.

How Tottenham could line up vs Ferencvarosi without Romero and Dragusin

Postecoglou faces a tough test picking a defence without the suspended Cristian Romero and Radu Dragusin, leaving his defensive options very thin on the ground.

Romero will miss the second game of a three-match ban for his red card against AC Milan back in 2023, meanwhile, Dragusin was shown a straight red against Qarabag.

His remaining options are Micky van de Ven, Ben Davies and Archie Gray. Postecoglou may have no choice but to start Van de Ven and Udogie with Gray having to cover Porro at right-back and Davies playing centre-back.

His attacking options are also light with no Son and Odobert, meaning Solanke and Johnson may have to start again.

Tottenham predicted line-up vs Ferencvarosi: Vicario; Udogie, Davies, Van de Ven, Gray; Bissouma, Sarr, Bergvall; Moore, Johnson, Solanke.
