£30m Tottenham player just sent the perfect message to Thomas Frank after setback

Tottenham star Mathys Tel recently suffered a major setback with his exclusion from Thomas Frank’s squad for the Champions League. However, he’s just responded in the perfect fashion during the international break.

Mathys Tel, 20, spent the second half of last season on loan with Tottenham before making a permanent move from Bayern Munich in the summer for £30m (BBC).

The French attacker, who can play as a left-winger or centre-forward, has been restricted to substitute appearances so far under new Spurs boss Thomas Frank. It got worse for him last week when he was overlooked for the Spurs squad that will compete in the league phase of this season’s Champions League.

In fairness, Tel has reiterated his desire to succeed at Spurs despite the crushing European blow, so we’re optimistic he can still play an important role in the upcoming domestic schedule.

Mathys Tel gives perfect reaction with France Under-21s

While plenty of players may have gone into their shell if they had been omitted from a Champions League squad, Tel has gone the opposite way by responding in the perfect fashion.

On Monday, France’s Under-21s side beat Serbia’s Under-21s 3-0 in an international friendly. Spurs frontman Tel was the star of the show, too.

The 20-year-old forward scored twice against Serbia, including a stunning left-footed effort from the edge of the box that flew in. It’s the sort of individual display that should do his own confidence the world of good. We suspect Frank would have liked what he saw as well.

Even though he’s yet to show his best form yet in Spurs colours, he’s clearly got huge potential with his pace, strength and composure in the final third. His redemption arc could be quite sweet if he gets a decent crack in domestic matches.

Thomas Frank will have to rotate in crazy schedule

Spurs play seven games in a condensed schedule in between September’s and October’s international breaks.

Of course, Frank will need to shuffle his pack to navigate the team’s way through the games above. He’s got the strength in depth within the squad to make changes during what looks like quite a generous set of matches.

In terms of the attack, Tel knows he’s got competition from Richarlison and Dominic Solanke if he wants to play as the central striker, where we would argue he’s at his strongest.
