Tottenham youngster claims Thomas Frank ‘absolutely’ believes in him despite making one start so far

One rising star at Tottenham Hotspur is convinced that he has the backing of the club’s new manager Thomas Frank.

Spurs currently have several talented youngsters in their squad, including Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray and Wilson Odobert.

Frank also has Mathys Tel, who is only 20 years of age. However, Tel was left out of Spurs’ Champions League squad, so the forward still has some convincing to do.

One of his teammates, though, believes he personally has Frank’s backing and trust.

Lucas Bergvall convinced he has Thomas Frank’s trust

Tottenham failed to sign Senny Mayulu in the summer despite reportedly making an enquiry for the Paris Saint-Germain star, but they still have another young midfielder in Bergvall.

And the 19-year-old is confident that he is in Frank’s good books despite only managing to make one start in the Premier League so far this season.

When asked if his manager believes in him, Bergvall told Fotbollskanalen: “Yes, absolutely. I’ve had to play almost every match. It’s just a matter of continuing like I did in the spring season.”

He also had some high praise for Frank, hailing the former Brentford boss as a “good coach”. Before being asked about his manager’s trust in him, Bergvall said: “Thomas is a good coach. It’s just a matter of continuing on the path from last spring. Then I got an ankle injury. Now it’s good and I want to get back to that level and just continue.”

While Bergvall has only made one start this term, he has featured in all of Tottenham’s games.

The Swede’s start came against newly-promoted Burnley, with Bergvall helping his side to a 3-0 win.

How Lucas Bergvall got on in only start so far this season

Bergvall played 80 minutes of football against Burnley before being replaced by loan signing Joao Palhinha.

His passing was fairly accurate, but the Sweden international did not exactly dominate the game, registering just 22 passes in total.

Overall, it was a decent performance from Bergvall and the former Djurgarden player has shown that he can be of use to Frank.

However, you would expect the likes of Palhinha and Pape Matar Sarr to be above Bergvall in the midfield pecking order at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this term.

Bergvall could next appear when Spurs take on London rivals West Ham United on Saturday.
