Mathys Tel has been discussing his omission from Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League squad.

Despite signing for Spurs in a £30m deal, Tel has been left out of the club’s squad for the league phase of this season’s Champions League.

He is also yet to start in the Premier League under Thomas Frank, making just two substitute appearances so far.

The forward has now discussed his future while on international duty with the France Under-21 team.

Mathys Tel staying at Tottenham despite Champions League exclusion

Not only has Tel been excluded from Tottenham’s Champions League roster, but he is also having to fight against some top attackers for a starting spot in the Premier League.

The 20-year-old is quite a versatile forward, able to play up front and on the left. However, Spurs signed Randal Kolo Muani on deadline day, while Xavi Simons can also operate on the left.

Despite all of the above, though, Tel is not planning to call it quits at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

“No matter, even if I was on the list, I would have had this desire, to be revengeful, to be able to be effective this season, to be able to start my season in the Premier League,” Tel was quoted as saying by Le Telegramme when asked if he is seeking an exit or revenge following his omission.

“Because now, it’s a first long season that begins because last year it was in the form of a six-month loan. A desire elsewhere? I am under contract with Tottenham (until 2031), so I am a Tottenham player and I will do my best to be able to play quite simply.”

Tottenham could yet add to their attack when the transfer window opens again In January.

It has been claimed that Tottenham could make a move for Malick Fofana, who was linked with rivals Chelsea and Liverpool over the summer.

How Thomas Frank delivered the news to Mathys Tel

Tel has also shared how Thomas Frank informed him of his decision to leave him out of Spurs’ Champions League squad.

“Quite simply, with respect,” the Frenchman said. “He called me, he simply told me his choice and then you could see the list appear on the networks.”

If Tel manages to perform, there is no reason why Frank will not include him in his squad for the next round of the competition should Tottenham progress to it.

It will not be easy, as the Europa League winners have some tough games. They have been drawn against the likes of current champions Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund, a club Tel knows well after his time at Bayern Munich.
