Being a Spain international, Pedro Porro has been a topic of conversation in his homeland ahead of Villarreal’s Champions League clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

Villarreal travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday night to take on Thomas Frank’s side.

Porro is almost certain to start, with the defender now one of Spurs‘ most important players.

He was excellent for Spain in their 6-0 hammering of Turkey over the international break. That night, only Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal made more key passes than Porro.

Tottenham hold Pedro Porro in ‘highest regard’

Tottenham have some exciting attackers, including new signings Xavi Simons and Mohammed Kudus. However, that does not mean that the club do not appreciate having quality defenders, such as Porro.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, Tottenham’s board hold the 26-year-old in the “highest regard”.

It is not hard to see why. Going forward, Pedro is one of the best full-backs in the Premier League, and the stats show it.

Since joining Spurs from Sporting Lisbon in 2023, Porro has recorded 24 goal contributions in 87 top-flight appearances. It is a very good return for a defender.

With Porro playing alongside Cristian Romero, Micky van den Ven and Djed Spence, Frank has a very good defence on paper. Captain Romero recently discussed the exit of Daniel Levy, thanking the former Tottenham chairman for his service.

Pedro Porro assist machine

The majority of Porro’s goal contributions have been assists, with the Spain international exceptional at bombing forward and whipping balls into the box.

While Porro is yet to register a goal contribution in the Premier League this season, it probably will not be too long before he grabs his first assist.

After Villarreal, Tottenham take on Brighton & Hove Albion. Their next league game after that is the visit of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

They are good sides but not the worst opponents for Spurs and Porro. With that in mind, he could easily make an impact in either fixture.
